It then goes to tell how the elk's fur was shed then turned to corn, beans, potatoes, and turnips. In "A Tradition of the Calumet" the story of the peace pipe is told. The people of the land were dancing to scalp the Lenni-Lenapi but a great white bird flew in to tel them not to an offer a peace to them in the form of a pipe. In "The Buffalo and the Grizzly Bear" A story is told about how the grizzly bear repeatedly attacked the buffalo bull because he had heard the buffalo had been bad mouthing him. The grizzly attacked the buffalo three different times before the buffalo attacked the grizzly and made him crawl away before deciding to be friends with one another. In "The Eagle's Revenge" the Cherokee tell a story of how a hunter killed an eagle one night because the eagle had been eating his kill. The next day the hunter takes the eagle back to the village where they dance over the killed eagle. A strange man walks to the middle and tells seven different people they would die. Week 1 Curation

I use online resources for many things from class assignments to small day to day questions or how to's that I need to figure out. I use twitter quite often but it is just for entertainment purposes only. I'm not really sure how to use twitter for classes. I am familiar with pointers but have never used it. I'm unfamiliar with Known. I'm interested in learning more about it though. I believe I am doing a decent job in keeping online information organized and available. I also think this class is organized very well in teaching how to use online tools and how to share findings.

Growth Mindset: My views

This is the first time I have heard of Carol Wreck and the Growth Mindset. Her views are interesting and very extreme. I believe they are interesting because they are very different from the views I have. I see myself having a growth mindset because I love learning new things that I am interested in and would further my knowledge to help me benefit in some way. The main thing I have learned about myself while learning at OU would be that I have to see something to learn it. I can not remember anything near as well if I just hear it. I've also learned that I have to learn in studious environment and can't be in a living space or on something to comfortable or I'll lose focus. I'm interested in hearing about the growth mindset and the theories behind it. I don't believe I will be very inclined to use the methods though. I am enrolled in many interesting classes this semester but the class I am most excited about would have to me Pathogenic Microbiology and Infectious Diseases. This is the type of microbial field that I would like to get into so I'm excited to learn more about the topics under the course. I pretty much have it down for how I need to study and prepare for exams in that type of class but would life to learn new styles of learning in my classes where papers and projects are the main focus.

My Storybook Favorites

My first choice for my storybook would be CreekStories. I choose this story because my grandfather's side of my family is Creek. The Creek people are very interesting to me because of their views on how a family is to be ran and how their people are governed. Also the religion of the Creek people is very interesting because they had various spirits that were worshiped while most still believed in a god that ruled over everything.

My second story of choice would be Live On University Legends. The reasoning for this choice is because I am an extremely superstitious person. I have never heard of these stories and am interested in learning more about them. Also The University of Oklahoma is the best university ever and always enjoy reading about it's history. The stories are likely to make me more paranoid. I would like to learn more in depth what actually happened in these stories while learning the variations in each story from year to year.

My third choice is Tales of Grimm. I like the Grimm Tales because they are the original versions of common fairy tales. The difference is that the Grimm Tales do not have quite the happy ending. These tales are interesting because they are based off of things that happened in life and show how dark human nature can be. Out of the stories that are under this section the frog prince is the only one I have read so I am interested in researching the other stories under this title.

I am interested in looking further into these three stories while furthering my knowledge in the various cultures. I hope to further other people's understanding in the way different cultures are viewed. These chosen stories in some way or another have effected my life which makes them personally important to me.

UnTextbook: My Choices

The first unit to get my attention is the Great Plains unit. I'm interested in this unit because I am part Native and would like to explore their stories. The second unit would be Homer's Odyssey. I read part of the Odyssey in high school and would like to go back and reread and interpret it differently from seven years ago. Cherokee Myths is my third choice because it is the tribe of my grandmother's side of my family. My fourth choice would be Egyptian Myth. I really have no reason for this choice except that Egyptian history has always been an interest to me.

Introduction of myself

My name is Tylor Killingsworth. I am in my fourth year as a microbiology major. I really don't have much time to do much except study. My major keeps me pretty busy most of the time. I plan to enter grad school after my fifth year at OU. After grad school I would like to work for some sort of biotech company or possibly the CDC. Also I plan to eventually obtain my doctorates degree. I am an active member of Sigma Chi. My hobbies include hunting, fishing, and target shooting. I like most things outdoors. The last time that I actually enjoyed watching TV or playing video games was when the original Super Mario was on the Game Boy Color. Other than that I don't watch too much TV or movies unless it's in a social setting and I'm forced to. I read the new everyday but other than that I don't do much in my spare time indoors. I have one perfect dog named Jasper. He is three quarters lab and one quarter Australian shepherd. He enjoys going on hunts and playing in any size water hole he can find. I am from Checotah, OK (yes that is where Carrie Underwood is from). It is located two hours straight east of Oklahoma City on Interstate 40. It is a very small town of around 4,000 people residing in it. It was a huge culture shock for me coming form a school where the entire high school is the size of my freshmen general chemistry class. Over the summer I lived back home and worked at a cardiology clinic as a physicians assistant for two months through an internship opportunity provided by the Creek Nation. I hope to enjoy this semester as much as I can and attend every home game of the Sooners and future Big 12 champions!

Week 1 Storytelling: From men to metal

There was once a group of people that met in a bar while discussing economical problems. The group of men were all from different backgrounds all with different views of how the country should be led. The first man declared he was in the top one percent of the social standings and focused his goals for the economy on global marketing and branching out to other countries for cheaper labor and supplies. This man declared he was like gold in society. The second man was a wealthy CEO of a small company. This man was fairly well off but not near as wealthy as the first man. His views were helping the very poor and disabled but letting the working class fend for themselves. He declared he was like silver in society. The third man considered himself in the middle class. He was an everyday working man that had a family at home. His views on society were that the very wealthy should give a generous donation to be spread among the very poor and disabled and to give more jobs to the poor to increase the middle working class. This man considered himself bronze of society. The fourth man was a humble man that made enough for himself and his wife while giving any extra he had to the poor and disabled. This man seemed to be the happiest and most content person with his life and how he was living. While he considered himself a more precious metal, society considered him as low as lead. The fifth man did not care about social issues and had no job while not having a plan to get one. This man took any free hand out he could find in life but did not contribute to the benefit of society. This man wasn't even considered a metal because he was useless. This man was called a monkey.

Author's Note:

This story is based from the nursery rhyme "I Am A Gold Lock"

I AM a gold lock.
I am a gold key.
I am a silver lock.
I am a silver key.
I am a brass lock.
I am a brass key.
I am a lead lock.
I am a lead key.
I am a monk lock.
I am a monk key!
